Leg Veins

Varicose and spider veins are a very common problem. Red and blue networks can become unsightly as early as the teen years. Ropey, bulging varicose veins typically develop after childbirth or with age. Factors such as hormones, pregnancy, heredity and standing contribute to the development of these veins. “Venous insufficiency,” is the medical term used for the backflow of blood in the legs due to leaky vein valves that no longer stay closed, allowing the blood to gradually enlarge the veins. Many people may have symptoms such as aching, pain, and swelling. Fortunately treatment is available, and usually can be noninvasive.

Sclerotherapy , a minimally invasive treatment for leg vein removal is used to successfully remove most spider veins. Sclerotherapy's method of treatment  requires a series of treatments where a tiny needle injects a small amount of sclerosing agent into the veins. There is minimal pain and the treatments, over time, allow the veins to shrink and re-route blood to healthier veins. After the treatment is performed, the veins tend to fade within a few weeks, but occasionally it may take up to four weeks to see the full results. For some patients, several treatments may be necessary.
